The Kindergarten Concert.

The Kindergarten Concert
by Robert Pottle

The kindergarten concert was an interesting show.
Peter walked onto the stage and yelled, “I have to go!”
Katie was embarrassed, but she had nowhere to hide.
She raised her dress to hide her face. Her mother almost died.
Keith removed his tie and said, “It’s ugly, Dad. I hate it!”
David picked his nose on stage. What’s worse is that he ate it.
They sang their song, and Wyatt burped, and then he did a dance.
Michael fell while spinning ’round. Peter wet his pants.
The music teacher at the end said, “There, I’m glad that’s done.”
The kindergarten bowed and said, “Let’s sing another one!”

If I cooked hot lunch for my Teacher.

What I'd Cook For My Teacher
By Bruce Lansky

If I cooked hot lunch for my teacher,
I would start out with rattlesnake stew.
Then I’d serve her a centipede salad
And a tall glass of milk mixed with glue.
Next, a seaweed and jellyfish sandwich,
For dessert, an a-chooberry pie.
When she finally finds out what she’s eaten,
I hope the old bat doesn’t die.

Get out of Bed!

  Get Out of Bed!
By Diane Z. Shore

"Get out of bed, you silly fool!
Get up right now, it’s time for school.
If you don’t dress without a fuss,
I’ll throw you naked on the bus!"
"Oh, Mom, don’t make me go today.
I’m feeling worse than yesterday.
You don’t know what I’m going through.
I’ve got a strange, rare case of flu.
"My body aches, my throat is sore.
I’m sure I’m knocking on death’s door.
You can’t send me to school—achoo!—
’Cause everyone could get it, too.
"Besides, the kids despise me there.
They always tease and always stare.
And all the teachers know my name.
When something’s wrong, it’s me they blame."
"You faked a headache yesterday.
Don’t pull that stuff on me today.
Stop acting like a silly fool—
The principal cannot skip school!"

The Opposite Day Parade!

The Opposite Day Parade!!
By Timothy Tocher

Because the day was rainy,
it was easy to persuade
my folks to take me to
the Opposite Day Parade.
The band passed by at twilight
playing Sunrise Serenade.
We liked the music so darn much,
we booed them while they played.
Sleek fire engines followed,
covered in smoke and flame.
I quickly called 119.
Of course, no help came.
Some paramedics raced by,
tearing band-aids off the crowd.
I couldn’t hear their siren
because it blew so loud.
The Boy Scouts never showed up.
I guess they weren’t prepared.
I’d hate to go back next year,
and I hope to see you there.

Today is a good day.

Today is not a good day

Today is not a good day.
I woke up sick in bed.
My stomach has a stabbing pain
that’s spreading to my head.
My knees are weak and achy.
My eyes are full of flu.
I fear I may contaminate;
I have a fever too.
I cannot see.
I cannot breathe.
I cannot read or write.
My eyes are shut.
My nose is blocked.
I’m not a pretty sight.
I cannot lift a finger
or move a tired toe.
My throat is hot and scratchy.
The answer’s simply NO . . .
I cannot go to school today;
I’m awfully sorry too,
this had to happen on the day
my book report was due.
